Creepy Doll (Ib) Plush

Doll Ib 01

This is a handsewn creepy doll from the game Ib, a little RPG Maker horror game from the 2010s. It's made out of fleece and felt, with button eyes and... needle pins with white heads poked permanently in there for the little sparkle. And peep the stitch hot glued near the mouth! I didn't know you were supposed to start sewing from the inside for appliqué pieces.

Looking at it now while making this page is humbling. This doll is my very first sewing project! According to my progress photos' metadata, I made it in late 2012. We didn't have nearly as much merch of just about anything at the time, and absolutely not for freely distributed, weird RPG Maker games translated by fans (may your cup never runneth empty, vgperson, for making this game so accessible.) So when I fell in love with Ib, and I wanted to do more than just play the game and look up fanart on Tumblr, I tried my hand at making a plush, armed with a thread and needle and kitchen scissors.

This doll is so old, in fact, that the pictures I used to figure out its creation date are all taken on a laptop with the Youcam webcam software, of all things.

Doll Ib 02

This doll is such an important step in my art journey... Maybe I wouldn't have attempted to sew costumes, tried using the old family sewing machine, and so on without first learning how fun it was by sewing up this little creepy gal. I've kept her around my bedroom, then my office as I grew up, and she's still kicking today for the opportunity to take an up-to-date photo of her so many years later!
