I've always had a soft spot for all the creatures and enemies in The Legend of Zelda, so when Breath of the Wild introduced these cute little troublemakers, I was charmed! When Tears of the Kingdom was released, and I wasn't feeling up to re-wearing my Young Link cosplay, I picked the humble Bokoblin as my next Zelda cosplay to keep on hand. This cosplay is the first one I made a conscious effort to focus on comfort as my driving core behind the project.

I patterned out a basic outfit by tracing out clothes from my closet that I liked the fit of, and assembled shorts and a tank top out of orange stretch fabric. The loincloth is a piece of scrap suede with fabric paint dabbed on roughly, and a loop in the back so it can be tied on my waist with rope. I used some leftover cotton stained with a coffee dye to make lots of bandages, and bought a whole lot of suede cording and hemp rope and all sorts of cheap beads to assemble necklaces and greeblies out of. The skull necklace was made out of scrap worbla heated and sculpted over aluminium foil. I used the same foil base technique to build the horn with foam clay. The horn attaches through the wig using a neodynium magnet and a hole was cut in the wig's top to help the magnet have maximum strength! It was my first time using these magnets, so I was experimenting quite a bit. The ears were made twice; the first ones (pictured here) are EVA Foam covered in fabric, sewn into the wig because the magnets didn't hold up their weight. Lesson learned... The second pair of ears were made out of upholstery foam to be lighter and more comfortable, though I still stitched them onto the wig instead of trying magnets again. Makeup on this costume is pretty basic, with the only thing of note being the black tooth enamel to create the illusion of pointy teeth.

Being a Bokoblin is fun! You get all the fun mischief I'm sure people who cosplay the Koroks can get into, but monsterc are more chaotic and noisy. It's only flaw is the ears; they're so large I often have to walk with my head sideways so I don't hit people with them. It's a very comfortable cosplay I took out to a few concerts and even out for Halloween, and while it's starting to get quite damaged, I'm sure my next Zelda-related cosplay will probably be another enemy to continue to bring out evil and demise!
