Holon is a premade fursuit head I got from _sun_raise_ in early 2024. I was coming out of the Wurmple suit self-discovery and was looking into trying to make a furry character to make a personal suit out of. I was following the maker already, but when they posted this mask I fell in love with the colors and immediately got him. (and shelved my character plans for later; I was hitting a wall, honestly.)
I got pretty excited with just the head at first, but then I had a nagging thought that I could do so much more. I set out to turn him into a partial, so I built my first two pairs of fursuit handpaws for him (one pair of big monster-like paws with resin claws, and one slim pair with 3d printed claws that were hand-painted.) I made a long tail, as well, with a EVA Foam core for a nice bounce. Eventually I got inspired to re-paint him so I could add some details and, well, what started as a simple paint job plan ended up being a complete re-smoothing of the 3d-printed skull and extensive painting and dry brushing. I even pulled out the translucent paints for the tiny red speckles!
He still has his original base facial 3d print, and his fur hood and ears. The pre-made design was lovely, but I just couldn't shake the idea of kabuki-like facial markings out of my head.
I'm happy with how he looks, now. The slim paws I made even have some conductive thread at the fingertips to (kind of) use touch screens while wearing them. He's a bit fragile to bring to events (his face got very soft once when I brought him out during a blazing hot furmeet, and I'm always scared of hitting his skull somewhere and cracking it) but he looks gorgeous, and I really enjoy how clicky-clacky the slim paws ended up being.
I tend to take him out to non-furry events more than furry ones, funnily enough; I just appreciate being able to show off my own self-made suits and characters to furmeets and cons, but Holon's just too neat not to take him out to halloween markets and the like. His smaller proportions would be perfect for a ren faire...
This reads more like a review than a project page due to the nature of it being a pre-made, oops! But rest assured his original maker did a great job with him. I just can't stop myself from customizing everything I touch. Those handpaws in particular were a great introduction to making fursuit parts and working with fur, since I hadn't really had the chance to work with shag fur until I started making parts for Holon.
